Focus shifted from flowers to fairy lights at this year's Best Front Garden competition with judges awarding prizes for the most dazzling display of Christmas lights.

The Radlett Horticultural Society's change in the nature of the competition may have puzzled a few when it was announced at this year's village festival but many competitive gardeners took up the challenge to put up the best display.

David Press, of 33 Battlers Green Drive, Radlett, and his grand daughter Roxanne, who helped connect the lights, collected the prize from Councillor Chris Wilkins at a ceremony last week.

Alongside his lights, Mr Press has showed he is a shining example in more ways than one by recently collecting more than £6,000 for Leukaemia Research.

Marilyn and Martin Kempton, of Cragg Avenue, won second place and the third place prize was given to Joan and Barry Gooden of Links Drive.
