Students had the chance to quiz two local politicians on the thorny issue of Europe and vent their anger at the MPs' expenses scandal this week.

Media and journalism students at West Herts College attended a Question Time session with Sal Brinton, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Watford, and Linda Jack, a Liberal Democrat european candidate.

The session tackled a wide range of questions from what the difference was between an MP and an MEP, to what Europe delivers to people in Watford.

Ms Brinton said it was “very refreshing” to hear from the students.

However she said the anger at the continuing expenses revelations was clear.

Ms Brinton said: “I said to the students that all politicians will have to rebuild trust with the public, and the first step to that is the full publication of MPs expenses, and reform of the allowances system. It is vital that this happens urgently.'

Ms Jack, who will seek election to the European Parliament next month, added: “I could hear the anger in the questions, and I can hear it clearly from residents as I knock on doors.

“My response to this is if residents are angry, imagine how we feel, many of us put much of our free time, our own money into campaigning.

“We work for free, yet we get the anger of residents. We are as angry as they are.”
