A founding member of the Watford Lions was appointed as the new president last week.

At a celebration dinner at The Swan in Abbots Langley, David Warren took over from Lord Mark Franklin, after a 'marvellous' year filled with 'proud' times.

Lord Franklin said: "It has been a busy year and I have been privileged to have attended many functions.

"None of what I have achieved would have been possible without the support of the members and the public.”

Mr Warren, who has been a member for nearly 40 years, has served as club president on three previous occasions and also as secretary.

He has been involved in many activities including organising the annual summer outing for the elderly and winter fish and chip supper evenings.

He said: "I am looking forward to another year of interesting projects and doing what we are good at - serving the community as best we can.”

Throughout the evening Mr Warren along with members Allen Harvey and Ragh Patel were honoured for 35 years of service while Frances Turner was awarded for her ten years of dedication.

The club are looking to expand its membership which is open to both men and women over the age of 25. For more information call Frances Turner on 01923 248 192
