Artist in Royal Navy commission

An artist from Chorleywood presented her latest work to the Royal Navy earlier this week.

Sheila Robertson, of Chorleywood Road, was commissioned by senior officers to paint a picture of the latest British Destroyer, HMS Daring – the first of its type to take to the water.

The portrait, which took more than three months to complete, will hang in the office of base commander Commodore Rob Thompson.

Mrs Robertson, who has lived in the village for most of her 82 years, said the commission had been a “great honour”.

She said: “I was honoured that they chose me ahead of everybody else. I traditionally enjoy landscapes and wildlife subjects so painting a large ship like this presents very different challenges.”
