A crowd of more than 400 shoppers gathered at The Harlequin shopping centre yesterday for the opening of a new shop.

Clas Ohlson, one of a chain of Swedish hardware stores, officially opened its doors at the two storey unit previously occupied by Zavvi – closed earlier in the year when it went into administration.

The first shopper through the door was Adama Fye, who had been queuing since 7am.

She received a £100 Clas Ohlson gift voucher from company CEO Klas Balkow.

The celebrations will continue tomorrow with an appearance at the store by model, TV and radio presenter Lisa Snowdon.
