Events across Watford to promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month have been hailed a success.
Organisations from the town, including Hertfordshire Libraries and Watford Women's Centre, joined Watford Mayor Dorothy Thornhill at the Guideposts Trust, in Estcourt Road, yesterday, for a 'debrief' about the programme held throughout February.
During that month, Tony Fenwick, the co-founder founder of LGBT History Month, spoke at Watford Museum. There was also a quiz night at the Guideposts centre, an art group and a Valentine's Day party attended by more than 60 people.
Lin Fellows, a mental health worker at the Guideposts Trust, said there were now plans to start a support group for gay men, following the success of a similar women's group names LezGo.
She said: “We want to help LGBT people. We also want to help to inform the general public that LGBT people exist and have always existed in all parts of history and cultures. This is not a 20th century fad. It's something that's always been there.
“We have to celebrate the fact we're all different and there are different types of people in the community.”
For more information about Guideposts, LGBT History Month or the LezGo group, which meets on the last Thursday of each month, telephone Lin on 01923 223554.
