Three Rivers District Council is stepping up its efforts to help residents recycle their rubbish.

From today, locals will be able to recycle plastics such as yoghurt pots, ice cream, margarine and butter tubs, food and microwave meal trays, plastic lids, flower pots and plastic bags, by placing them in their kerbside recycling boxes.

Cling film, expanded polystyrene and wrappings used for raw meat cannot go in the box.

Councillor Sara Bedford said: “Hopefully this will mean that far more of our household waste can be recycled and very little will need to be placed into the ordinary waste green wheelie bin.”

The council will be issuing a leaflet with more information on the scheme to each household in the coming weeks.

If residents would like a second box for plastics email enquiries@threerivers.gov.uk or telephone 01923 776611.
