Watford MP Claire Ward votes to ban under 18 sunbed use

MP Claire Ward has voted to ban under 18s from using sunbeds.

Ms Ward, member for Watford, registered her support for the Sunbeds Bill on Friday – during its third reading in the House of Commons.

A recent report compiled by Cancer Research UK claimed that upto 50 per cent of 15 to 17 year-olds regularly used sunbeds.

Ms Ward explained: “This is about protecting our children from the danger of skin cancer, which affects an increasing number of people and claims too many lives every year.

The bill will now be debated by the House of Lords before it can become law.

How come MPs are now debating this, 20 years ago it was recommended that people should only have a 30 mins session once a month, will this apply to sunbeds in homes? What punishment will accompany this? Will people be only allowed 30 mins in the sun?

If you had any dealings with the effects of badly run sun-bed salons, i.e. youngsters with 3rd degree burns, it is obvious that a law which sets out standards is required and as is observed overdue.

Saw a funny piece on TV at the weekend, Ward was being interviewed by some guy who said "When's the baby due?", she replied "I had it 3 months ago". Had to laugh
