The severed thumb of a suspected kidnap victim from Watford has been found by police.
Officers confirmed this afternoon that the thumb, found in Ilford, Essex, belongs to Mahmood Ahmad, who was reported missing on Sunday, March 7.
The 41-year-old was last seen by colleagues leaving the Aldgate kebab house where he worked.
Hertfordshire Constabulary, which confirmed its officers were investigating a kidnapping, said it “could not rule out the possibility of murder.”
Detective Chief Inspector Melanie Burn, from Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, appealed again for witnesses.
She said: “We are urgently appealing for any information on Mahmood’s whereabouts. He may well be injured and need urgent medical help.
“We need assistance from members of the public to find him or to provide any other information which they think could be relevant.
“This is a kidnap investigation but we cannot rule out the possibility of murder. Your information is vitally important.”
Mohammed Riaz, 33, of no fixed abode, has been charged with kidnap, false imprisonment, harassment and burglary. He has been remanded in custody.
A further four people, one woman and three men, are currently under arrest and being questioned.
Anyone with any information is asked to call 01707 355798.
