Eight arrested in ANPR sting in Watford and wider Hertfordshire area

Eight people were arrested on Friday afternoon and three "wanted" criminal suspects detained in a series of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operations across the county.

Police set up a number of ANPR traps across, including one in Altham Way, South Oxhey, in a bid to take dangerous and uninsured vehicles off the road and.

A total of 44 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) were handed out to drivers talking on mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts and travelling without a valid MOT.

Seven unsafe cars were also taken away.

Officers, using the state-of-the-art technology in the ongoing Operation Sentinel, are instantly alerted to unregistered vehicles or those connected to known criminals.

Hertfordshire Chief Constable Frank Whiteley said: "We have used ANPR to stop in their tracks hundreds of criminals including burglars, robbers, drug dealers and dangerous drivers. We will continue to target anyone tempted to come into the county to commit crime or risk the safety of innocent motorists.”

Why aren't Police concentrating on "real" criminals instead of the usual money making schemes which involve persecuting motorists. It's all about performance statistics and getting the £££'s rolling in. They aren't interested in real Police work as it is too hard. Much easier to sit next to a camera and wait..>!

What, real crimes like car theft, banned drivers, and the uninsured - these are what ANPR targets.
These are real crimes with real victims.

- don't be a plonker!

You donkey! The report said that eight people were arrested. Even if you don't consider using a mobile phone whilst driving and no MOT as "real" crimes, then the fact they arrested three wanted people and a further five others is clearly a good thing. It seems like you have been conditioned to react without thinking when in reality you should be applauding this.
