Elderly pony 'traumatised' as thieves raid Watford stables

An elderly pony was left “quite traumatised” after thieves raided stables and stole a blanket from her back.

Lucy, 21, whose eye sight is also affected by cataracts, is one of several rescue ponies adopted by Madeleine White, proprietor of Bucks Meadow Stables, in Bucks Avenue, Watford.

But she was targeted by a pair of thieves when they entered the stables at about 6.30pm last Tuesday, March 9.

That night, Madeleine was tipped off that someone was on her land and as she walked across the field, she disturbed two men who then left the scene.

They had already taken Lucy's blanket and released several ponies from their stables.

Madeleine said: “It got reported as a crime but she's been quite traumatised by the whole thing. She might have been quite manhandled. Nothing like that has happened before.

“We have had her for ten years. It was quite upsetting for her.”

The missing blanket is a royal blue check Shires Stormbreaker make and was embroidered with the word Lucy.

Anyone with information should telephone police on 0845 3300222.
