The Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, has agreed to judge a poetry competition after visiting a secondary school in Watford.

And it was during her visit to Watford Grammar School for Girls, on Monday, that she finished writing her latest poem, about England footballer David Beckham's latest injury.

During her visit to the school, in Lady's Close, Carol read and talked about her poems, including those the students are studying for their GCSEs, and answered questions from Year 9 and 11 pupils.

And she agreed to judge the school's forthcoming poetry competition after describing her audience as “top class”.
