Winter fuel payment deadline is approaching for Hertfordshire residents

Time is running out for people living in Hertfordshire to claim their winter fuel payments.

Residents over 60 can receive the payments to help pay their energy bills.

Pensions Minister Angela Eagle said: “I don’t want any vulnerable pensioners to be afraid to turn up their heating. That's why we’ve spent a record £295 million in cold weather payments and £2.7 billion in winter fuel payments so far this winter.”

Anyone aged 60 or over on or before September 27, 2009, may qualify for a payment of £250 per household.

Households with someone aged 80 or over could get a payment of £400.

However, they must apply before Tuesday, March 30.

For more information, telephone the winter fuel helpline on 0845 9151515 or visit www.direct.gov.uk/winterfuel.

Why not on the electoral register, not being sold to companies, have the ages of residenys with contact details to ensure those who qualify don't miss out. Forgot public sector finking!

I am slighty confused. Just before I turned 60 I recieved a letter from the winter fuel paymenst centre saying "they knew I was just about to turn 60 and I would be getting the payment automatically" and that I did not need to do anything further.
How is it that people have to apply ?

Because the people who wrote to you wont lose their job, is there a name on the bottom of the letter, if there is ask your MP to take up the case. That's why they are there after all!
