Two “botched” pothole repairs that angered traders in Bushey were merely temporary, Hertfordshire County Council revealed today.
The authority first came under fire earlier this month when initial repairs to the cavity in Sparrows Herne, near to the junction with Claybury, were churned up within days by heavy traffic.
When workmen returned to fill the hole properly last week, neighbouring businesses claimed the work made the problem worse than before.
But the authority, which manages the county’s road network, explained that on returning to carry out a full repair, the workmen were hindered by inclement weather.
A representative said: “When we visited the site to do a permanent repair it was raining heavily. We did a temporary repair and will be returning soon to do a permanent repair, weather permitting.”
