Chorleywood club celebrates council cash for cricket coaching

A cricket club in Chorleywood has been given £720 by the county council to pay for a professional coach.

Chorleywood Cricket Club's under 13s will benefit from 12 weekly sessions, teaching them the basics of cricket. They will take place at St Clement Danes Sports Hall on Saturdays from 12.30pm to 5pm.

Can someone tell the Lib Dems there's a recession on and not to spend money they don't have to?

Chorleywood is one of the wealthietst areas in the country and has an already thriving, very fine cricket club offering good coaching to young players.

Another black mark for HCC's hugely wasteful community grant scheme - a snip at a mere £770,000 a year!

If spreading the great game of cricket is the goal ere then why not fund some sessions in Watford or South Oxhey; why not introduce some kids to the game who otherwise would nevr get the chance to play?

The answer, almost unbelievebly, is that the un-named Chorleywood councillor in this story has £10,000 of taxpayers' cash burning a hole in his pocket and has to spend it in his community - a compulsion that leads to pointless, over-indulgent awards like this.

If taxpayers' money is to be spent directly in communities then I for one would rather see poorer areas awarded a bigger slice of the pie.

I have nothing against Chorleywood CC but why doesn't it provide one of its own coaches to take these sessions?

Also, in response to Reg Edit, this has nothing to do with the Lib Dems as it is a policy of the Conservative County Council.
