Wallpaper in Watford underpass to be replaced due to flaw

Wallpaper in Watford underpass to be replaced Wallpaper in Watford underpass to be replaced

The wallpaper in the Watford underpass is due to be replaced this week after flaw has been found in the material.

Watford Borough Council has said the paper’s manufacturer is undertaking the job free of charge in the tunnel off The Parade.

The work is due to start on tomorrow as West Herts College is on half term, and is expected to last until Friday 17.

Cyclists will be advised to dismount when going through the underpass due to the narrowed space there will be as work is carried out.

Is this what they call "papering over the cracks"?

Wallpaper in an underpass? The mind boggles! I thought they had tiles or something on the wall.

Are we talking about the Town Hall underpass, the revamp of which the Lib Dems were crowing about on their leaflets, but may not have been so brilliant after all?

Wallpaper that lasted what, less than a year? Can Dorothy tell us the cost of that job and how long it is guaranteed for?

If there's too much money in the council coffers, then give some back and reduce the council tax.

Watford Councils job is not to be the biggest employer in Watford but to provide value-for-money services to the people of Watford.

Cut spending, stop silly vanity project like the Cassiobury park revamp and go back to doing your job, emptying bins and stopping inappropriate developments.

I would however support some extra spending. A well-paid consultant to work out what can be cut from the council with the council obliged to make the suggested cuts or detail exactly why they disagree. We pay DT well, perhaps she could do that herself to start with.

Reg - it clearly says that the job is being done for free! I doubt the council asked the supplier to deliberately install inadequate paper so they are just rectifying a problem.
Roy - The underpass has been "wallpapered" with colour pictures of Watford and a few advert/poster points for local events for over a year.
I had my doubts when i originally saw the work but last time I walked through I was impressed how none of the pictures were covered in graffiti! Not even a comical mustache!

I wasn't talking about the fixing job, I was talking about the original job.

Let's hope the council don't decide to carpet the parade next. It won't last.

...but it is the job of the council to try and make the place look better - it improves the quality of life for residents, helps attracts visitors etc

...and it does say the manufactrer is replacing it free of charge.

Cassiobury Park: is a lottery heritage funding bid - so good luck!
...and it means local people (and their are 2 million annual park visits), get a better place to go to - and we don't have to pay for it as council tax payers.

Reg Edit- It is clear you do not support the Lib Dems, you do nothing but moan about them spending your/our money even when it is clear that in this instance it is not costing the council a penny.
Yawn, I will just point to you (again!) that there is certain money that the council have that cannot be used to simply reduce council tax or pay to keep services going. It has to be spent on projects that enhance the Town. I for one would like to congratulate the Council for the 'wallpaper underpass' it is a much needed improvement to what was a dreary concrete tunnel abd it certainly brightens me up whenever I use it.
