Dad to cycle 1,200km in 90 hours

A father-of-two will start a 1,200km cycle challenge next week.

Liam Fitzpatrick, of Rickmansworth will take part in the Paris-Brest-Paris, to raise money for children's communication charity I CAN.

Liam, who works in the communications industry,said: "I decided to fundraise for I CAN because as a professional communicator, I naturally empathise with its work helping children express themselves.

"Being able to communicate is a foundation life skill but one that so many people take for granted and I recognise and understand the importance of encouraging children's communication skills from a very young age."

The money raised by Liam will go towards the charity's work to develop speech, language and communication skills for all children. Communication is the essential 21st Century life skill - the foundation on which children learn, achieve and make friends.

One in ten children in the UK has a communication disability.

In addition to this, in some areas of the UK, up to 50 per cent of children arrive at primary school without the communication skills they need to learn and make friends.

Liam's aim is to cycle 1,200 within 90 hours.

The Paris-Brest-Paris challenge happens once every four years and competitors must go through a rigorous qualification process before being given the chance to take part.
