Cyclists are being urged to sign up to a new code to smooth relations between bikeriders, pedestrians and motorists.

Cyclists willing to pledge their support towards safe and responsible riding will earn themselves a free bike Watford' bell to decorate their wheels and warn pedestrians.

The code states cyclists should use cycle routes where they can, give way to pedestrians and take care at junctions and corners.

Dorothy Thornhill, Mayor of Watford, is a keen cyclist and encourages riders to "sign the code" for better biking in Watford.

She said: "We are strongly committed to encouraging cycling throughout the borough and expanding the facilities, routes and cycle paths for cyclists.

"I cycle regularity; it's convenient, good for your health and costs very little."

Residents who are willing to "sign the code" can pedal down to the customer service centre, Watford Town Hall where they will be rewarded with their shiny new "bike Watford" bell.
