Police today launched an appeal for witnesses to a smash-and-grab at a jewellers in Church Street, Rickmansworth.

The incident happened at around 4.45pm on Thursday, January 10 when a man smashed the front window of the jewellers with a hammer, which was later found at the scene.

He reached inside and took items from the display cabinet before making off on foot towards Norfolk Street.

The man is described as a black man of a stocky build and around 5'5" tall.

He was wearing a black cap, white shirt, jeans which were turned up and black shoes and may have had an earring in his left ear.

Detective Constable Richard Bagworth, said: "I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened to contact police with information.

"If you were in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously or saw the offender running from the scene I would like to hear from you."
