Bike enthusiasts from across the country can now sign up to take part in the second annual cycle ride to raise money for Stanmore-based spinal injury charity, Aspire.

The charity is calling for keen bikers in north London, Middlesex and Hertfordshire to dust off their bikes and polish their bells in readiness for their annual fundraising initiative on Sunday July 20.

And this year cyclists have a choice of two routes - a gentle 30 mile ride around the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside or a more challenging 52 mile journey around the region, taking in St Albans and Harpenden.

Both cycle routes start and finish at the home of Aspire - the Royal North Orthopedic Hospital in Stanmore.

Cyclists are encouraged to raise £100 in sponsorship and the emphasis is on a great day out. Although not a race, there will be medals and goody bags for all finishers.

The event is open to people of all cycling abilities over the age of 14 years, although anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Aspire's Andrew Ogierman said: "Places on the ride are limited and a little practice before the big day advisable so it is essential that people sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment".

Every year the money raised from the charity cycle ride is targeted towards a specific Aspire project.

Anyone interested in taking part in the ride should contact Andrew on 020 8420 8951 or by e-mail at andrew.ogierman@aspire.org.uk.
