Behind Hertfordshire's 2000+ sports clubs lies an army of super-volunteers.
Without them, sport as we know it in this county could not exist. The search for sports volunteer heroes and legends is on...
Often unrecognised and rarely rewarded, they give up their time unselfishly to provide a myriad of sporting opportunities each and every day of the week.

These unsung heroes are the driving force behind sport in your community.
Do you know someone who helps others take part in sport within your community? Do you know anyone who you think deserves an award?
Graham Keen, Sports Project Officer from the Herts Sports Partnership said: "Through the Service to Sport Awards, the Herts Sports Partnership rewards sports volunteers and clubs that deserve recognition for the time, effort and commitment they give to sport.
"This may be a coach, umpire or referee. It might be someone working behind the scenes looking after a website or acting as club secretary.
"It could also be a junior team players' mum or dad who washes team kit, drives the minibus to the match or makes post-match refreshments every week! All of these people are sports volunteers and all of them make a valuable contribution to making sport happen!
"There are literally thousands of people in Hertfordshire who give up their spare time to volunteer in sport - by putting them forward for an award you are giving them the opportunity to be recognised for their dedication and efforts."
On Wednesday, October 8, sports people from across the county will be descending on the 2008 Herts Sports Partnership Service to Sport Awards in the Weston Auditorium at the University of Hertfordshire's, de Havilland campus to celebrate the commitment and success of sports volunteers who help others to take part sport in their local community.
If you know someone who fits the bill make sure you nominate them. For more information visit www.sportinherts.org.uk or contact Graham Keen 01707 281006 or g.a.keen@herts.ac.uk.
