Watford Borough Council has installed a range of new playground equipment in the Cassiobury Park tea pavilion playground.

Specifically designed for the under sixes, the playground now features a range of fully accessible equipment.

For example, the roundabout is flush with the floor and has a gated space for a child in a wheelchair. Other Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant equipment includes a set of chime panels, which are great for visually impaired children, and a set of mirror panels, designed for hard of hearing children.

The entire playground has had safety surfacing, and features brightly coloured ground graphics including hopscotch, snakes and ladders and giant footprints. Along with the chime panels and mirror panels - there are two talk tubes, for secrets to be whispered to one another.

Larger equipment includes a toddler playhouse and a wigwam.

Work is also planned this year on the main playground next to the paddling pools in Cassiobury Park, which will be suitable for toddlers to early teens, and which will, again, be fully accessible for children with disabilities.

The first stage will be a consultation with five local schools, and various community groups, including the Friends of Cassiobury Park which will take place later in the year.
