OPEN plan offices may be all the rage in Hertfordshire but it seems some old workplace traditions die hard.

A survey published this week has shown nearly half of Hertfordshire bosses (45 per cent) have never make coffee for their staff.

The survey into coffee etiquette at work conducted by Macmillan Cancer Relief to promote its World's Biggest Coffee Morning explodes the modern myth of flat working structures.

But employees in Watford should take some comfort some 63 per cent of bosses in Kent and East Sussex have never made coffee.

Workers in Yorkshire proved the luckiest as only 39 per cent of them say their boss shuns the coffee-making rota.

Peter Cardy, chief executive of Macmillan, says: "We want bosses across the UK to find the way to their staff kitchen by September 24, so they can take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan.

"We are expecting over 1.5 million people around the UK to participate in the record-breaking event and are hoping to raise over £4.5 million for people living with cancer.

"We are urging these kettle-shy bosses to call 0845 602 1246 and register as a coffee morning host."
