A bus company has promised to invest more than a million pounds in new vehicles by November.

Arriva representatives attended an Abbots Langley Parish Council meeting last week, after recent complaints from residents about delays on the number six bus that often "didn't turn up at all".

The meeting gave Arriva the opportunity to explain some of the problems that have affected the reliability of the number six bus through Bedmond after letters were published in the Watford Observer from angry residents.

Arriva spokesperson, Linsey Frostick, said: "Since the widening works of the M1 have moved to develop Junction 8, the area has been used as an alternative route by traffic trying to avoid the roadworks.

"This has had a negative impact on the service and as a result we are looking to introduce a temporary timetable to help overcome this problem.

"The number six service is an important route to Arriva and they are fully committed to providing a better service to the customers.

"As a commitment to improving the route over the coming months, Arriva has advised that it is investing more than £1.25 million pounds in new vehicles for the service which are expected to be delivered in November."
