Identity is a personal thing

4:46pm Friday 9th November 2001

I read with interest the article written under 'Opinion' by Rupert Smythe and Rachel Bradman in the News Shopper dated October 3 and would like to make the following points:

1. When I was born a birth certificate was issued

2. During WWII I was issued with an ID card

3. I joined the Navy and was issued with an ID Pay Book

4. I got married and was issued a marriage cer-tificate

5. I joined the Police Force and was issued an ID Warrant

6. I applied for a passport, giving my details

7. I joined a security company and was given an ID card

8. Now I am retired, I have a pension book

All these have my details recorded - so what's new. It hasn't changed my life or the way I live, maybe its be-cause I've nothing to hide.
