JAWS dropped as old friends recognised each other, treasured photos were passed round and good times were recalled at the Watford Mods Reunion at The Highwayman in Tolpits Lane, West Watford, on Friday, October 21.
Hosted by Stuart Armstrong, former Mod and now publican of The Highwayman, about 30 former Watford Mods attended.
Among the many recollections discussed were local officers of the law, including one called Mahoney, who Stuart and Brian "Moggie" Moorhouse described as an "arch enemy". They recall that he patrolled the streets on a Triumph Bonneville motorcycle, which was able to catch up with any speeding scooter. Other officers apparently rode Vellocette LE machines, known as "Noddy" cycles, which could not catch up with the Lambretta scooters riden by the Mods. Do any former law-enforcers have memories of these days which they would like to share?
Reference was made to an establishment called the Casaroma, next to the Empire Cinema, which was used by some Mods. Do any readers have any memories of this establishment or any other popular hang-outs?
