William Harding, of Abbots Langley, is hunting for details about a ghost story connected with a mill, which used to stand by the Gade at Cassiobury Park.

William, now 78, recalls reading in the Watford Observer of a ghost haunting the mill in about 1937 when he was aged around ten.

He believes the story related to a man who killed a girl in the mill and a ghost was supposed to revisit the building and the Gade on a certain date of the year.

He explained that he, his brother, Ron, and cousin, Jack, decided to go ghost-hunting. He recalled: "We slept out in the mill building waiting for the ghost to come. All we got was red noses and frozen cold in the morning."

William, who grew up in Cassio Road, Watford, has many fond memories of Cassiobury Park and described the demolition of the gates by Rickmansworth Road as a "wicked" act. He said: "When they knocked the gates down, that was the biggest disgrace. The old park keeper used to live in there, I knew him well."

Do any readers have any knowledge of the ghost story? Does anyone have pictures of the mill and neighbouring cottages which they would like to share? When was the mill finally demolished?
