Mr R Pillinger, of Kings Langley, wrote in to ask if any readers remember Green's in Watford High Street, which was sited close to WH Smith and sold photo supplies and vinyl records.
He also asks if anyone recalls several landmarks between the High Street and Beechen Grove in the area now occupied by Charter Place and Watford Market.
He lists a footpath which ran from the High Street to Beechen Grove and passed by Mence Smith; the vegetable depot run by Fred Tear in Beechen Grove, the Drill Hall in Beechen Grove, a small garage which had a sign reading "Car repairs" on the corner of Clarendon Road and Beechen Grove.
He adds: "I'm sure there was a caf like a Lyons Corner House opposite the Halifax at the top of Clarendon Road."
