There’s a distinct “Keystone cops” flavour about this “first old” hose carrier, which was the last word in fighting fires back in 1895 (pictured above).
But don’t smile – the “quadricycle” could notch up an impressive 45mph in an emergency.
And how the heads turned and people scattered for safety when the prestigious, steam-powered, horse-drawn engine (also pictured) hurtled by.
The bearded crewmen? In both cases, they are 1969 Watford Firemen P. Glaysher, K. Rossell, T. Hyde and D. Lee.
All are putting in a little training for Watford Fire Station’s open day on August 9.
