THE Second World War broke out afresh this weekend in Bushey, with an authentic recreation of 1940s atmosphere.
Since the decade was dominated by armed conflict, it is hardly suprising that the Forties Family Weekend had a very military flavour.
The crowds who visited the Lincolnsfield Centre in Bushey Hall Drive admired genuine wartime jeeps and "soldiers" in uniforms both British and American arrayed in camps around the main arena.
Their tents included genuine wartime tobacco tins, banknotes, mobile chess sets and a beautifully decorated pewter drinking flask.
The Home Front was well represented by some genuine period fire engines, and a sing-a-long led by Fiona Harrison, who bills herself as Britain's finest professional 1940's entertainer.
With We'll Meet Aagain, Underneath the Arches and Knees Up Mother Brown, she soon had her audience joining in enthusiastically.
