Cast and crew of the BBC’s hit television show The Choir: Unsung Town gathered in a South Oxhey school hall last night to watch the last episode in the series and toast its remarkable effect on the community.

Joined by Choirmaster Gareth Malone and a plethora of local dignitaries, members of the 260 strong South Oxhey Community Choir squeezed into Oxhey Wood Primary School for a lively public screening, preceded by a rousing vocal warm-up.

The fourth and final instalment, displayed on a big screen in the school hall, featured the choir’s memorable recording session at Abbey Road Studios and its headline performance at May’s inaugural South Oxhey Festival.

On Friday the Watford Observer will publish an in-depth article about the show’s impact on the community, featuring interviews with pivotal cast members.

Interviewed by the Watford Observer, Mr Malone, who has promised to retain his involvement with the choir, spoke of his enormous pride in the project.

He said: “This has been a very special project for me because it’s involved a whole community for the first time. I really took the people of South Oxhey into my heart they took me into theirs.

“I’m so proud that we ended up with was more than just a TV show. It was always going to be difficult for the choir when the cameras moved away but I’m very proud that the choir will continue.”
