PIPPING Simon Cowell at the post at the Broadcasting Press Guild Television and Radio Awards, South Oxhey choirmaster and award-winning presenter Gareth Malone is on a roll, winning not one, but two of the coveted awards.

At a lunchtime ceremony held at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane last Friday, Gareth won the award for best TV performer in a non-acting role and The Choir: Unsung Town was named best factual entertainment show.

Gareth was also honoured last week with a personal award from the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire.

The South Oxhey Children's Choir performed at the awards ceremony singing I’ve had this shirt, Lone Dog, Paint Box and Walk and Talk, conducted by Gareth Malone and with pianist Chris Mundy.

Audiences can join the choir for an Easter Monday concert on April 5 at 3pm at St Albans Cathedral.

The programme will include: Thou knowest Lord, the secrets of my heart, Bob Chilcott’s setting of Psalm 23, The Lord is My Shepherd and Gareth’s arrangement of Huey Lewis’ Power of Love.

Admission to the concert is free but seating is not provided, so bring a blanket, cushions and a picnic and take a tour of Verulam Park before the concert.
