Crash victim 'critical'

The female driver injured in a serious road accident yesterday afternoon remains in Watford General where her condition is described as being critical.

The 41-year-old woman was injured when her car flipped onto its roof after crashing into a barrier on Beechen Grove.

Police say the woman was driving a maroon Vauxhall Meriva towards the town hall roundabout when the vehicle left the carriageway and collided with a banked verge.

The car then rolled over and ended up back on its wheels.

The accident happened between the fly-over and the town hall roundabout and resulted in Beechen Grove being closed for some time.

Anyone who saw the car or the woman before the collision, or saw the collision itself, is asked to contact the Western Area Road Policing Unit on 01923 472388.

Hope she is ok though

I saw the police and ambulance arrive from my window. A quick thinking paramedic run over to the crash scene to avoid the wait in the traffic I hope the lady is alright.

Judging by the position of the vehicle in the photograph, I assume that she was travelling at some speed and did not negotiate the corner well enough, therefore mounting the steep verge, rolling and coming back down again.

Perhaps she is not from this area, and therefore not familiar with that part of the road.

In any case, let's hope this unlucky lady recovers fully.

my dad saw the aftermath of the crash whilse the lady was still in the vehicle, the paramedics were not treating her then i doubt the'll be treating her now she was dead before they even had a chance to help her. but if she is still alive i hope she makes a full recovery

Can you not read? The report states that the lady is critical...that means alive...not dead!

I think the assumption from a lot of the comments that speeding or not knowing the area should be dropped.

The lady is critical and will have freinds and famliy worried sick hoping she makes a full recovery, and lets hope she does.

Is anyone considering that she may have been taken ill at the wheel and hence lost control of the car ? It may be some one else was driving badly - which on the ring road is a regular occurence and caused the accident ?

May we wish her well and leave the police to do their job - not people's views ??

Imagine how you would feel if this was someone you knew and these comments were being passed.

Exactly...there was another accident recently where a man had a stroke at the wheel.

I hope the lady makes a good recovery. I guess it was sheer luck that there were not more injuries

Oh for god's sake... why dont you just get off your high horse for just one second?

I was just simply making an observation on what may or may not have happened here.

There was no intent on being nasty of unthoughtful in my comments whatsoever.

As with most people that believe in altruism, I sincerely hope that this poor woman is OK, as i said before.

As for you Ju Ju, why dont you just get a life for gods sake.

As a friend of the family I think all accusations should be kept quiet, as there is really no need whatsoever to post such riduclous things and this is a website about the Watford Observer so I really can't see people needs too write comments like 'get a life'.

There were no accusations made whatsoever.

I was simply making assumptions as to what may have caused this sorry situation.

For the record, I have in no way been disrespectful to the poor driver at all.

An in any case, are people not allowed to wonder just what may have happened here?

Incidentally, the Watford Observer has a role to publish news and offer us readers the opportunity to publish their comments on such subjects as these, and that is all I have done.

I am sure that everyone here hopes and prays that this poor lady makes a full recovery.

After reading these comments i must say i am astounded at some people's ignorance. This poor lady has two children and they are distraught over this incident. I think people should stop making assumptions as to what happened and instead hope for a full recovery. As for tommy4frcroxley, your comment is disrespectful and thoughtless. People are arguing over each others comments, personally i think it's pathetic, many people are sick with worry for this poor woman and all you do is argue over stupid comments when this incident doesn't have anything to do with you...? I think some people need to sort out there lives.
