Air Ambulance appeal gets a lift

Staff at Three Valleys Water have raised £460 for the Herts Air Ambulance during their regular "Time to Give Friday".

Time to Give Friday is a monthly initiative where a member of staff nominates a charity to dress down for the day and charges £1 for the privilege.

Karen Hawkins, Operations administrator put forward the Herts Air Ambulance when she discovered that the county did not have this vital service.

Appeal co-ordinator Nikki Caborn visited Three Valleys Water, to meet with staff and thank them for their efforts.

Nikki said: "We need £250,000 to enable us to look at getting a dedicated air ambulance service in Hertfordshire. So far we have raised just over £206,000 so we are getting closer."

An air ambulance is built for speed and designed to reach accident victims within even the most inaccessible areas, such as golf courses, bridal-paths, remote woodland and beaches, as well as on our roads and motorways.

With emergency take-off being achieved within no more than two minutes, clinicians can be rushed to the scene of an accident and back to hospital within minutes. With no traffic congestion or other obstructions, those vital early minutes saved are crucial to the patient.

The presence of an air ambulance service in Hertfordshire could literally be a matter of life or death for any one of its one million inhabitants.
