The NHS Trust in charge of Watford General Hospital is "confident" it will record a surplus of around £2.4million, for the financial year 2007/08.
The figure was revealed as the work West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust has done to improve its quality of service was recognised by the Healthcare Commission.
The Trust came under fire after it was rated as weak' two years running, but the health watchdog has been impressed with its efforts to meet Government standards, as well as meeting targets for infection control and service delivery.

A West Herts representative said: "The trust has been working to bring about the changes to improve performance.
"In the last six months we have seen a dramatic improvement in performance against national standards, significant improvements in our financial position and a fall in waiting times.
"We have been working very hard on getting our finances back on track and we feel confident to predict that we will be reporting a surplus of around £2.4 million at the end of the 20-07/08 financial year."

If they have a surplus, why can't they now fund the operation and care for Pete Nash (and others).
Please don't tell me that the surplus (or part of it) will now be paid out in the form of bonusses to the accountants running the show.
I want to see surplus/deficit of ZERO and it ALL used up in treatments.
