Two initiatives have been launched in Bushey with the aim of providing free sporting and recreation facilities.
Hertsmere Borough Council, in partnership with the Friends of King George Recreation Ground, has installed three pieces of special outdoor fitness equipment at the park to promote healthy living and leisure opportunities.
It is hoped that the weatherproof equipment - a bike and step machine, a double air walker and an arm rotation unit - will help retain the park's Green Flag, the national award for parks and green spaces, which it has held for the last 10 years.
Councillor Jean Heywood, Environment Portfolio Holder with responsibility for parks, said: "The equipment is ideal for those who don't want to join a gym and prefer to exercise in the beautiful surroundings of the park."
The equipment is intended for adults over 14. Up to six people can use the equipment at any one time, which is located near to La Dolce Vita Cafe.
Mike Shrives, Chairman of the Friends of King George Recreation Ground, said: "We were delighted to support the council in providing outdoor fitness equipment for adults in the park. It is easy to use and it might be something that older people want to use for exercise."
Free swimming times have also changed this month, allowing residents to swim earlier in the day.
From Monday 20 July, anyone aged under 17 or over 60 and living in Hertsmere can swim for free between 7.30am and 9.30am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
The scheme extends to Bushey Grove Leisure Centre in Bushey and other council-owned leisure centres in Hertsmere.
The other session times will not change.
Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "The scheme is a fantastic way for children and young people as well as older people to lead a healthier lifestyle without having to spend a penny.
If you do not have a Hertsmere Leisure card you will need to apply for a swim card and provide proof of age and residency. For more information contact Bushey Grove Leisure Centre on 01923 470140.
