As another school year draws to a close, parents up and down the country will be wondering how to keep the kids entertained for less this summer with the credit crunch tightening belts. With six weeks of freedom from lessons, homework and exams, youngsters will be eager to do as much as they can this holiday, and Hertsmere’s 'be there! do it!' summer programme may just hold the answer for young people living in Hertsmere- helping them to stay active without bankrupting the Bank of Mum and Dad.
The 'be there! do it!' summer initiative, which will run from 27th July to 28th August this year, gives young people aged 11-19 the chance to get involved in a number of exciting activities at sites across Hertsmere, including Bushey Grove Leisure Centre and the Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett.
Street Dance lessons, gym sessions, free swimming, golf days and motorcycle courses, are just some of the fun things taking place during the holiday and whilst a number of the sessions are free, the rest of the events are reasonably priced. Different events are open to different age groups so that participants can make the most of the activities; with yellow band events available to 11-13 year olds, blue band activities for youngsters aged 13-16 years and pink band events for those aged between 16 and 19.
The programme has been running for a number of years and is sure to guarantee some summer fun for kids in Bushey and surrounding areas this holiday, and at the same time provide some respite for parents.
For further information on the events contact the 'be there! do it!' Team by telephone on 020 8207 7568, or alternatively email community.services@hertmere.gov.uk.
