Police have been left stumped after a wooden bench in Kings Langley was mysteriously sawn in two.
Officers said the bench, on the corner of Belham Road and Havelock Road, had been targeted by someone who knew what they were doing and probably not regular vandals.
At a Kings Langley parish council meeting on Tuesday night, PC Nicholas Pringle suggested the bench could have been destroyed by a local resident enraged by congregating youths.
PC Pringle told councillors: “I can’t recall a time when I’ve seen a bench sawn in that way, it would have been incredibly difficult.”
Suggestions by parish councillors to replace the bench with a metal one were dismissed as PC Pringle worried that the bench could disappear due to a spate of metal thefts in recent months.
