A programme of heritage days organised to open residents' eyes to Watford's hidden architectural treasures are to run this month.
Watford Borough Council is supporting the national Heritage Open Days 2009 between Thursday, September 10, and Sunday, September 13.
Heritage Open Days have been organised nationally to celebrate England’s architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.
Events and activities will take place on the four days at Holy Rood Catholic Church, St Mary’s Church, Bedford Almshouses, Watford Palace Theatre, Watford School of Music, West Herts College, Watford Museum, Watford Central Library and Watford Town Hall Chambers.
The council has also arranged an acting troupe dressed in period costume to recount historical tales and entertain audiences with stories about Watford through the ages.
The special event in the town centre will take place on Saturday, September 12, between 12 noon and 5pm. For a full listing of venues, opening hours and special events visit www.watford.gov.uk or telephone the council on 01923 232297. Tours and activities need to be pre-booked.
