Saturday was a notable occasion for horse lovers in Rickmansworth. At the Rickmansworth Riding School and Hunting Stables the annual gymkhana was staged.

Children’s events were again a feature and in these there was a good entry. It was a proud occasion for many parents, while the children put up a most creditable show.

Perhaps the most interesting event, from both competitors and spectators’ points of view, was the equestrian fancy dress class for members of the Pony Club, with a special prize for the best Old Berkeley Hunt member.

Well deserved first prize winners in this event were Michael and Donald Burness who, riding a 12 hands pair of roan ponies as like as two peas, appeared as Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

Running these very close for originality was second prizewinner Miss Cynthia Walker, who appeared as the Emperor of Abyssinia [Haile Selassie].
