We begin this week with a letter from Mrs Annette Elworthy, who lives in Rainham in Kent.

Mrs Elworthy sent me the above photograph of Mr Wilkinson’s form at Hampden School in South Oxhey back in 1957/58.

She writes: “I wondered if any of your readers recognised themselves. What a motley lot we looked! Particularly note the ankle socks.

“I am in the front row, fourth left. My maiden name was Annette Worthy. I would love to hear from anyone in the picture. Perhaps they could get in contact via Nostalgia?”

Certainly, Mrs Elworthy. If any readers recognise themselves from the picture, please write and let us know any memories, which I will happily pass on. Mrs Elworthy knows many of the names but by no means all of them.

Moving on, last week the column featured a Christmas party of West Herts Federation of Women’s Clubs taken some time during the 1960s. It was taken at Watford Colosseum which last Saturday held an open day featuring, among many other things, an exhibition of old pictures taken at the venue. If you missed it, a second such exhibition is being planned for the autumn.

Anyway, following the picture’s appearance  in the column last week, I had an email from reader Pat Harding.

She writes: “Further to your picture of a Christmas party taken during the 60s, I recognise Mrs Freda Marks standing roughly in the middle five rows back, wearing glasses.

“Freda was a member of Highwood Women's Club and there are probably other members standing with her. I do recognise a few faces but cannot put a name to them.

“Highwood was set up in 1951 and I believe Freda joined about a year later. She was a member until she sadly passed away two years ago.

“I have been a member since we moved to the area in 1974 and can remember attending similar functions at Watford Colosseum where we had a band, dancing and fancy dress competitions and it was standing room only.

“Sadly with dropping numbers, this no longer happens although there are still a few clubs still in existence.”

Thanks to Pat, for that. But there must be others who remember more. Please let us know.
