Taking the weight of the biggest helmet in any police force in the world are officers from Watford and St Albans.

Hertfordshire police officers will be accompanying the 90lb helmet to Boston to commemorate the Boston Tea Party and at the same time raise money for the mentally handicapped. The giant helmet was the idea of Mencop, the police version of the Royal Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults – Mencap.

The 7ft high helmet was made by David Sykes, design lecturer at St Albans College with the help of his students. The Atlas-like police constables supporting the helmet above are Bill Wells, Graham Russell and Adrian Blundell.
