Secondhand cars do not, as a rule, attract very much attention, but few people have been able to walk past the red and silver racing car which is the “bargain of the week” at the newly-opened garage Clarendon Motors, next to the Carlton cinema.
The admiring crowds are not made up of small boys, for once within touching distance of this 140 mph formula junior car, even the most sophisticated yearn to sit in the cockpit.
An ex-works Gemini with a Cosworth tuned Ford 1½ litre engine, the car has been raced this season by the new owner of the garage, Mr Alan Lovell-Spencer, of Belmont Lane, Stanmore, with a great deal of success.
The car, which has been largely rebuilt, is for sale for about £350; the rest of the stock at the garage is more conventional.
