Man at the top Mike Morton is heading for the bright lights at Watford football club.

This week he was 110 feet above the ground in Vicarage Road, Watford, ensuring the players remain in the spotlight... for Mike maintains the club’s floodlights.

“It’s not particularly dangerous as long as you know what you’re doing,” said the 29-year-old, who doesn’t use any safety equipment while he is at Watford.

“It’s not really necessary here because there is a safety cage around the ladder,” he said. “Smaller towers with no cages are more dangerous. I wear safety stuff then.”

The views from the lighting towers are fantastic.

“At Watford, you can see for miles,” said Mike, who is an electrician with Peter Tearle Floodlighting.

“We have been looking after Watford for some time now. We also look after the lights at QPR and Chelsea,” he said. In fact, it is at Chelsea Mike climbs his highest tower – 180 feet.

Despite all the good Mike does for the club, some fans might be alarmed by the fact that he comes from Luton. But they need not worry.

“I don’t support any football team,” he said. “The only time I go to football grounds is to repair the lights.”
