These four clergymen agree it’s flippin’ cold – but their suffering is for a good cause.
The sporting reverends were getting in a spot of practice before representing Oxfam on Tuesday in Watford’s annual pancake race, sponsored by the Watford Observer and the Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
The clergymen taking part are, from left, Father Bernard Scholes, of Holy Rood Church, Watford; the Rev Dick Lewis, of Christ Church, St Albans Road; the Rev Clive Smith, of St Peter’s Church, Bushey Mill Lane, and the Rev Ian Harper, of Holy Trinity, Bushey.
The team’s manager and Oxfam co-ordinator Mrs Gill Hill explained: “They will be supporting Oxfam’s Hungry for Change campaign for justice and not hunger in the Third World. The three-year campaign is aimed at securing aid, both long and short term, for the Third World.
“The vicars representing us thought the pancake race would be a good way of getting the message across and a good way of making a point for Shrove Tuesday.”
This year’s pancake race will begin at the Watford High Street pond at 11.30am.
