Watford Observer: Wimpy

One burger, French fries, a chocolate shake and a red nose to go! That’s been the unusual order from customers at the Wimpy restaurants in Watford High Street during the past month.

The fast food restaurants in the town have been doing a roaring trade selling red noses in preparation for Comic Relief day.

Wimpy’s two Watford restaurants have sold more than 4,000 noses so far. Each nose costs 50 pence which goes directly, in full, to the Comic Relief fund.

Staff have, of course. developed their own sales pitch and have even donned the plastic noses themselves in order to boost sales.

The town’s Oxfam shop has also been selling red noses but has had trouble keeping up with demand.

They have already sold out of noses six times and have had to disappoint quite a few people, staff confessed.

Above: Wimpy staff Alison Halsall, Kenrick Garderner and Hayley Foster ham it up for Comic Relief Day.

Watford Observer: Coppers

It’s a hoot down at Bushey police station for these clowning coppers. The boys in blue were an arresting site this week when they donned comic conks.

The zany stunt was staged for Comic Relief. All the lads down at Sparrows Herne nick say their nasal caper is not to be sniffed at. Maybe it’s just a sinus the times – everyone seems to be joining in.

The laughing line-up, right, is PC Steve Brotherton, PC Eddie Carter, PC Alan Baird, PC Ken Moxley and Sgt Steven Bloomfield.
