Margaret Kimpton, née Robins, wrote to Nostalgia with some memories of living in the same road as the Greville family, who owned a famous photographic studio in Watford.
Mrs Kimpton, from Broomfield Rise, Abbots Langley, said: “I was interested to read the obituary for Ivor Greville, as I know their family home was at 10 Gladstone Road, as one of your former contributors to Nostalgia, John Perry, can confirm as he and his family lived at number four.
“I myself lived at number 71 on the opposite side of the road. My sister was the same age as Jean Greville.
“I was the same age as Peter, who was a very handsome lad. They had a cellar in their house, which was of great fascination to us other children.
“Also on another subject, I went to Beechen Grove School from the age of seven to 11 when I went to Victoria School.
“Beechen Grove was a nice little school. It backed onto the wood yard so you could hear the wood being sawn all day.
“It was also next door to the Woodman pub.
“My dad used to go there for a pint. Opposite the school was Sheehan's the blacksmith and we used to watch the horses having new shoes put on.
“The blacksmith’s son also came to the school.
“Thinking about it brought back lovely childhood memories of that area.”
