Spotted in the Watford VE Day celebrations

VE Day celebrations in Courtlands Drive, Watford. John Griffin got in touch after spotting himself in two photographs on the Nostalgia pages.

Mr Griffin, from Seaview, the Isle of Wight, said: “I thought I would write to you as I have now seen two separate photographs of my young self in Nostalgia.

“The first photograph is in the VE celebrations in Courtlands Drive, above, when I was seven years old. I am now 70. My late mother and younger brother are also shown.

“A letter from Mike Mallord of Carpenders Park mentions his late wife Kathleen Couzens who attended Langleybury School. It’s a small world as I was in the same class at Langleybury School. I believe she had a sister and two brothers at the same school.

“John Low sent to you a photograph of Leggatts Way football team (January 8, 2010, reproduced below) and I am standing next to my good friend Tom Farrell.

Leggatts Way School football 1950-51. “I remember everyone in the photograph, but had a job to recognise myself! What great memories.

“My late wife Dawn (née Hutchinson) attended Leggatts Way Girls School and I know she lived near the school and would have known some of those photographed.

“Later in life I played a few games for Kings Langley FC.

“I am now retired on the Isle of Wight.”
