Children from Field Infants School celebrated National Walk to School Week 2007 on Wednesday 23 May when they walked to school with Elected
Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill and Watford Football Club mascot, Harry the Hornet.
One Watford, the local strategic partnership, supported the national Walk to School Week 2007 which ran from 21 to 25 May as part of its year of sustainability promises.
Caroline Presland, a parent who has written the school’s Green Travel Plan and helped coordinate the day said: “Walking to school is something that the children have taken to extremely well. 80% of
the children who attend the school took part in the day and on an average week all the children who walk to school combined cover the equivalent distance of Watford to Milan.
“The school’s head teacher, Mrs Griffiths has been using the daily school assemblies to help teach the children about the environmental, social and health benefits for themselves and their parents
when they walk to school. We are also keeping a record of how far the children walk and will be asking people to try and guess the total at our summer fair to win a prize.”
