  • Neighbours looked on in horror as two fires ripped through a garden and a small block of flats in Oxhey yesterday afternoon.
  • Thick smoke engulfed houses neighbouring the property, in Eastbury Road, as firefighters twice tackled fierce blazes.
  • The blaze caused horrifying damage to at least two of the four flats, in which it is thought there are at least seven occupants, including a three-year-old girl.
  • Two men were arrested at 4.40pm yesterday evening (Monday) on suspicious of arson in relation to both fires.
  • Crews spent more than one hour extinguishing the second blaze.
  • Worried onlookers initially dialled 999 when a small garden fire at the property got out of hand and set light to a large conifer tree.
  • Police guarded the building overnight to allow scenes of crime officers to carry out investigations this morning.
